Words step away from me in this alleyway cafe
My tired soul sadly doesn't much want to play
So I buy some poetry
Let it take a go at me
And I sigh while I pretend
Other's voices can upend
These broken choices I must own
Thank G-ds aside, I am alone

Facing Otherwise - With Gratefulness To Jane Kenyon

I got out of bed
and thought of Jane
and her two strong legs
and her life and
her otherwise

I thought of the poet
who introduced me to Jane
a young woman I met
at a workshop, and dated
and then it was otherwise

I'm thinking of this screen
I'm blessed to be sitting here
sharing poetry with you
in my air conditioned bliss
One day it will be otherwise
