I Scream

Living dreams it seems

doesn’t mean much to

mainstream teams.

It’s a retweeted theme,

a going around meme;

that the masses deem

trying to live redeemed

as extreme, un-esteemed.

Yahrtzeit

In the midst of my
year of mourning for my dad
mom comes back again
from the dead, reminding me
that she passed away today

WRITTEN ON MY MOTHER'S YAHRTZEIT, 2017

We say kaddish for parents
sometimes for grandparents
and then a line is drawn
great grandparents' yahrtzeits are released, forgotten
as those old souls disappear
like film astronauts
who get cut from their ship
and spin off in space
till they are no longer seen

Lies A Poet Told Me

(written one year ago)

When I write I don’t think about being published
It’s my calling
Sometimes it flows in one take
If a certain journal accepts me I know the poem is bad
I don’t have a definition for poetry
You could get published too.
I’m not jealous of other poets
A lot of poets who get published aren’t good.
My poems choose me.
I show rather than tell.

 Penn Station 12/22/13

Saying what is said
Hearing what is heard
For grace between the lines
We pause and pray
Maybe, Maybe needs
to go away
Maybe, Maybe-
take that break
Maybe, maybe you
more than certainty
are the one that's
caused my heartbreak

A Poem Before Re-Sleeping

Dec 22, 2014

Sometime we think we're dating

and it turns out we're dating ourselves

Sometimes we think we're relaxing

and it's more like we're just numbing pain

Sometimes we think we're going to sleep

and we're reawakening so much we felt

Sometimes we think we're starting new

and it's the same thing again, again.

Kids have so much on their minds
sometimes studies get left behind
If teachers try they will find
things go better when they are kind.
