HOPE IN THE TIME OF CORONA
I sat outside alone today
taking in the warm subtle wind
listening to the birds chirping
as though they were bringing good news.

Governor Cuomo said
that he received many
complaints about closings
but none came close to the
outcry over the bars
I told this to a friend
who reacted saying
how funny that struck him
as it's foreign to him
how people go to bars
I took in his judgement
in regard to the bars
and though it's not my way
I would be slow to judge
the way people connect

My dad used to quote
a rabbi from his youth
saying father's/mother's day
is not one day a year
but that it's every day.
Dad honored his parents
during their cut-short lives
and long after they passed.
He surpassed most people
with respect to his folks.
This came to me just now
as I read that today
was world poetry day.
For this rabbi believes that
every day is poetry day.

who passed away may want her

A Draft - Free Associated

I'm fifty seven
I worry that my age based on my health is older.
I'm five foot seven
(though a short angry man
at the DMV,
years ago,
when I still had a license
strongly disagreed.)

I weight two hundred and six
under optimal circumstances.
(I had been down to
one hundred and ninety-ish
three years ago
but started eating more food
and heavier food.
Four years ago I hit two twenty.
According to Weight Watchers
I'm supposed to be
no more than one sixty.
I've been paying Noom
for the last couple of years
but haven't used it once
or cancelled it.
I go to a trainer,
but don't train hard.
I don't used my treadmill
except as a punchline.)
